23 Jan Old Police Docket Donated to Rescued Treasures to Be Returned to City of Casper
Casper, WY – A rare and historic police docket for the City of Casper dating back to 1904 has been uncovered at Rescued Treasures West Thrift Store, a ministry of Wyoming Rescue Mission. This remarkable artifact, offering a glimpse into Casper’s rich history, was discovered by Assistant Store Manager Scauti Hillman, who immediately recognized its significance. “I have a love for old things and a good eye for antiques,” Hillman said. “I knew right away it was priceless and an important part of Casper’s history.”
A police docket is a log used to record daily incidents, arrests, and other activities by law enforcement. This particular docket offers a fascinating glimpse into the early days of Casper’s history, chronicling a time when the town was just beginning to establish itself. Some of the notable crimes detailed in the docket include “reckless riding [of a horse]” with a fine of $4; “keeping a house of prostitution” for a fine of $100; frequenting a house of prostitution, and disturbing the peace.
The docket will be formally returned to the Casper Police Department at a press conference on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at 10:45 a.m. at Rescue Treasures Thrift Store – West, located at 5345 CY Avenue, Casper, WY. During the event, WRM Executive Director Brad Hopkins will officially hand over the docket to the Casper Police Chief, Keith McPheeters, and both leaders will make remarks. This event will celebrate both Casper’s rich heritage and the role of thrifting in preserving and uncovering hidden treasures. “The discovery of this docket highlights the thrill of thrifting,” said Hopkins, executive director of the Wyoming Rescue Mission. “Every item has a story, and sometimes, as in this case, those stories are a significant part of our shared history.”
“The history of any organization is an important aspect of its culture and its future,” said Casper Police Chief Keith McPheeters. “We are grateful to the staff of Rescued Treasures, who recognized that this heirloom of the Casper Police Department was an important window into our Department’s past. We will ensure that this record of our history is preserved with honor and dignity,” continued Chief McPheeters.
