11 Jun Alanna’s Story
Alanna grew up with parents who were in and out of prison for drug use, so she and
her siblings were raised by their grandparents. But despite the loving home she had,
Alanna ended up following the same destructive path as her parents.
“I was very sheltered,” she says. “When I grew up, I did whatever I wanted… and it was
not the right way.”
Alanna lost everything to her addiction – cars, apartments and relationships. And she
was also in and out of legal trouble due to her lifestyle. The turning point came when she was arrested for the fifth time, and she decided to
come to our ministry after getting out of jail. Though it was a hard decision to not return to her grandparents, who face health challenges, Alanna knew it was time to rebuild her life. “I was homeless and didn’t have anything. I was ready to just get out of that life, so I came to WRM.”
Alanna joined our Discipleship Recovery Program, and she says her transformation has
been amazing. “I was saved while I was in jail, so I’m very new to all of this. But they’ve helped me stay
focused on what I really want in life and things to look forward to.” She is enjoying living a sober life, and the peace that has come from serving others in
our Rescued Treasures Thrift Shop. While she’s not sure what the future holds, Alanna has
hope again for the first time in a long time.
“Being here has allowed me to grow as a person and stay on the right path. I’ve started
to love myself.” Thank you for loving neighbors like Alanna “as you’ve loved yourself.” Your
kindness has reminded her that she is not alone and that a better life is possible!
“I am more joyful and happy because I turn everything over to God.”
